A Culture Of Health – Thank You Austin Chamber of Commerce!

ABA-Winner-logo-250x275Developing a culture of health is as much a challenge in a business led by a physician as in any other business environment.  And I need to be the first to say that the lead does not primarily come from myself as a doctor.  The Karis Group may be a small company, but we are blessed with the most amazing team of staff, including those who keep encouraging all of us to be as fit and healthy as we can be.  Our company culture says that it is cool to be fit, and I for one see this Greater Austin Business Award  from The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce as confirmation of that!

The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce recognized The Karis Group in the Small Business Category for Health & Wellness at the 2013 Greater Austin Business Awards on September 4.

“It is such an honor to be recognized for our Wellness Program,” said Karis Group Corporate Senior Vice President Zan Blount. “At The Karis Group, we are fortunate to have strong support from our executives for this program, and a strong commitment to the well-being of our employees. This allows us to schedule a variety of activities that emphasize wellness in all areas of life – physical, emotional, social and spiritual. We’ve done a number of activities together:  paddle-boarding, kayaking, volunteering in the community, hiking, indoor rock climbing, nutrition and relationship seminars, and many other fun, social activities. This approach not only contributes to overall employee wellness, but makes us a better company and improves our teamwork!”

This year, 23 winners out of 1113 finalists were chosen in the categories of Innovative Practices; Customer Service; Executive Leadership; Community Relations; Environmentally Responsible; Health & Wellness; Technology; Nonprofit; and ‘Most Uniquely Austin’.

“The Austin Chamber of Commerce seeks to honor the businesses in the Greater Austin area that lead the Central Texas economy towards a future of diversity, innovation, and responsibility,” said Austin Chamber Chairman Lew Little, Jr., CEO of Harden Healthcare. “The Greater Austin Business Awards is a key expression of the Austin Chamber’s dedication to recognizing Central Texas companies of all sizes for their successes and contributions to the community.”
